Dear Eisenhower Families,

We are extremely proud of how individualized, timely, and focused the instructional opportunities are for all children at Eisenhower. With our focus being geared toward assessing and addressing student learning on a daily basis, our resource team plays an important role. Every day, during every lesson, our classroom and resource teachers are assessing children and organizing supports based on this data. Because of this collaboration, we know our students’ learning needs better than ever. The next step in the process is be able to use this detailed knowledge to provide more individualized challenges or supports to help them continue their growth as successful learners. The goal is to provide these timely supports so children do not experience any gaps in their learning. The bottom line is EVERY child is getting a very customized education because of these exceptional practices.

The resource team’s responsibilities do shift from year-to-year based on the overall needs of Eisenhower students. There are some consistencies in place to differentiate instruction for learners that include, but are not limited to:

• Enrichment practices in math and reading include providing instruction that expands upon the daily learning targets in a manner that facilitates students’ higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Learning support practices in math and reading include reteaching and additional practice of daily learning targets. Repeated exposure helps strengthen student understanding and acquisition of key concepts.

• These instructional practices take place in small, flexible groups that occur within the classroom as well as in resource classrooms.

Academic journeys come in many different sizes and shapes. The classroom and resource teachers work collaboratively to determine the opportunities that will best maximize your child’s learning potential. Based on individual student need, instructional decisions are made. The placements are always fluid and flexible acknowledging how children grow and change throughout the year.

About the Resource team:

Mrs. Dominick taught second grade at Eisenhower for 18 years and is currently the Enrichment Resource Teacher. She graduated from Penn State University and received her master’s degree in educational technology from Waynesburg College. Mrs. Dominick is also the Elementary Math Curriculum Leader for the district.

Mrs. LaLomia has taught for 20 years, the last 10 of which were in third grade at Eisenhower. She is currently the Math Resource Teacher. She graduated from The College of Wooster and received her master’s degree from Tufts University. 

Mrs. Meston has been teaching for 18 years, 15 of those have been in the Upper Saint Clair School District as a classroom teacher. She is currently a Reading Resource Teacher. I hold a master’s degree in education as well as a reading specialist certification.
