Robotics showcase set for May 26

USC RoboticsThe Upper St. Clair Robotics Club is hosting a Robotics Showcase from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, in the high school gymnasium.

“Boyce, Fort Couch, and high school Robotics Club members will be showing off what they have done this year,” Tracy Smith, teacher and Robotics Club sponsor, said. “We are opening our doors to anyone in the community who is interested in seeing what USC Robotics is up to!”

Attendees will have an opportunity to see and experience what USC Robotics teams have created this past school year.

“I have two robots that play soccer, a dancing robot that moves in sync with different dances to seven songs, a robotic pet that gets mad if you don't feed it and reacts differently to different things, a FIRST LEGO League competition robot, a robot that acts as a soccer ball, a robot that shoots projectiles…” Jason O'Roark, teacher and USC Robotics coach, added.

In its inaugural year, USC Robotics has had an enthusiastic response from students and families. In order to plan for the level of interest, the Robotics Club is currently registering students for next year’s program.

“We would like parents to sign their children up by the end of this school year so we can officially formulate cohorts and teams over the summer,” Mrs. Smith said. “This year we had more students interested than we could accommodate. We are trying to make sure that we are ready for the amount of interest next year!
