Projects get underway – expect traffic delays on USCHS campus

CautionTwo construction projects will begin soon that impact traffic and parking on and around the Upper St. Clair High School campus.

High School paving and related work begins Monday, May 3
A campus-wide paving project gets underway this Monday, May 3. The project will proceed in a phased approach – impacting specific sections of the campus – throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year and most of the summer. The project’s anticipated completion is early August.

In order to minimize disruptions to the high school, contractors will be working around arrival and dismissal times. However, delays are likely. Students are encouraged to utilize school bus transportation, when possible, and/or budget additional time for the morning commute to avoid being tardy.

Most of the paving work will occur after morning arrival and before student dismissal. Those arriving to campus after the start of the school day, should expect restrictions and delays. In addition, pedestrian traffic will be restricted in areas under construction.

Work will begin on Panther Pass, starting at the entrance adjacent to Westminster Church. To avoid delays, from approximately 7:45 a.m. until 2 p.m., vehicles should use the McLaughlin Run Road and Truxton Drive entrances until this section of paving and related work is complete. In conjunction with this project, additional work will be happening in other areas throughout the campus.

Truxton Drive hillside retaining wall construction will begin mid to late May
In mid to late May, construction will begin on a retaining wall for the hillside along Truxton Drive, adjacent to the visitors-side of the stadium. Traffic on Truxton Drive – between McLaughlin Run Road and the entrance to the high school – may be limited to one lane and the school’s Truxton Drive entrance may be closed intermittently between 7:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Truxton Drive hillside project is a joint venture between the Upper St. Clair Township and the school district. Township officials are leading this effort.

District operations personnel are working collaboratively with our construction partners and Township officials to ensure that we are doing everything possible to minimize disruptions. All drivers as well as pedestrians are urged to have patience and use caution when entering our campus beginning next week.
