Reminders from the district’s Health & Safety Team:
Planned fall and winter travel: We understand with the approaching holidays that families may have plans for travel. In making your plans, please be mindful that we are adhering to the Pennsylvania Department of Health travel quarantine guidelines per the district’s Health & Safety Plan. The list of states requiring a 14-day quarantine upon return does change based on current conditions. If your destination is on this list during anytime of your trip, quarantining will be required. Students are permitted to access remote learning while traveling and while completing their quarantine period. If your child will be missing school, please be sure to submit the Excused Trip Form in advance.
Daily Screening Protocol for families: Before a student boards the school bus or is dropped off at school, the parent/caregiver at home must conduct a daily health check, which will evaluate the student for any symptoms of or exposure to COVID-19. Using this brief set of questions, and after taking your child’s temperature, please assess your child’s health for readiness to attend school. If the answer to any of the screening questions is “yes”, please keep your child home from school and notify the health office. The health office has a return-to-school process that must be followed before your child may return to the school building. After notifying the health office, students are permitted to log on remotely, if they are well enough to participate.
Other illness: If your child is feeling ill (but not COVID-19 related), please keep him/her home for the day. Click here for general guidelines from our school nurses. Be sure to notify your child’s health office or attendance secretary. After notifying the health/attendance office, students are permitted to log on remotely, if they are well enough to participate. Please be aware that even though your child may have a “cold” or other diagnosis, if the symptoms fall under the COVID symptom screener a physician’s note will be required before your child can return to school. This is guidance set by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and in recommendation of our school physician.
Communication regarding COVID-19: The district continues to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff. Our Health & Safety Team leaders are in regular contact with the Allegheny County Health Department. If/when there is a concern that an infectious person has been in our schools, we will notify all close contacts (any person who was within six feet for 15 minutes or more) as directed by the Allegheny County Health Department. We will also provide necessary communication to the broader school community when there is a potential impact to the school environment. Please understand that due to privacy laws, the district cannot disclose specific information about individual situations.
Our best defense against illness: Our entire staff remains committed to keeping our facilities and buses clean and sanitized to protect the health and safety of our students and staff. In addition, students and staff are reminded to wash/sanitize hands frequently, wear a mask and practice social distancing. These basic health practices are important both in school and beyond the school day.
