Students talk with astronaut Woody Hoburg
Upper St. Clair students had the opportunity to participate in a LIVE video call with astronaut Woody Hoburg, who is currently aboard the International Space Station. The event, which was available district-wide via live stream, took place at 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. Woody Hoburg serves as the pilot of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission, which launched on March 2, 2023. He and his crew are scheduled to return to Earth in August. Boyce & Fort Couch celebrate Schools-to-Watch designation
Upper St. Clair's Boyce and Fort Couch middle schools are among 10 Pennsylvania schools honored as Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn Schools to Watch 2023. Each of the schools hosted a celebration on Monday, May. 22, 2023. The programs featured student performances from each school's orchestra, band and chorus. Streams raises $2,000 for Canine Partners for Life
Streams Elementary School raised $2,000 to benefit Canine Partners for Life during the school’s annual Children for Children initiative. The theme for this year’s effort, which spanned from February through May, was “A PAWsitive Attitude Can Make All the Difference.” Read more

 

USCHS Esports team finishes top 8 in Pennsylvania
In its inaugural year, the Upper St. Clair High School Esports Club had a successful season in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association (PIEA). The varsity-level Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team finished in the top eight in the commonwealth, reaching the quarterfinals. The club’s Overwatch 2 team finished first in the junior varsity division. Read more

 

Fort Couch and USCHS students sponsor food and clothing drive
Algebra Part A students at Fort Couch Middle School and Upper St. Clair High School are teaming up to help those less fortunate. The students are hosting a food, clothing and toy drive to benefit the Food Helpers of Washington County. Nonperishable food items and new or gently used clothing and toys can be dropped off at either school any day through June 2, or monetary donations will be accepted for the food bank as well. Proposed final budget approved
The Upper St. Clair School Board approved the district’s 2023-24 proposed final budget totaling $100,147,255 during its meeting on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Final budget approval is set for June 19. The proposed spending plan is based on a millage rate of 29.6339, which includes a 3.75 percent increase of 1.0711 mills. The annual tax impact of the increase on a $250,000 home, the average assessed home in Upper St. Clair, is $267.78 or $22.31 per month.  Read more

On the radio at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, The Saturday Light Brigade (SLB) will broadcast a special feature with three of the Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania 2023 18 Under 18 honorees, including USCHS’s Kriti Gupta. Listen to the SLB

 

Red Carpet set for Tuesday, June 6
Upper St. Clair High School senior prom is set for Tuesday, June 6, at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Oakland. Prior to the event, the community is invited to attend the Red Carpet from 4:15-4:45 p.m. on the high school’s campus. The Red Carpet is a great opportunity for friends and family to capture photos of the seniors in their formal wear. Read more

 

USCHS Class of 2023 to graduate June 8
The 2023 Upper St. Clair High School Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies are set for Thursday, June 8, 2023. Baccalaureate, for graduating seniors only, will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the theater. The commencement ceremony will follow, starting at 7 p.m. in the stadium. Commencement will be live streamed for those unable to attend in-person. Read more

 

Junior pianist places first at competition
Upper St. Clair High School junior Leona Chen was selected as the first-place winner of the inaugural Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh Concerto Competition, hosted by the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania. She will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor alongside the orchestra as soloist on Sept. 9, 2023.  Read more

 

LAST CALL: Halls of Fame nominations accepted through May 31
Nominations for the Upper St. Clair High School Halls of Fame are being accepted now through May 31, 2023. Founded in 2000, the Upper St. Clair Halls of Fame honors those who have distinguished themselves in academics, the arts, or athletics at the high school, collegiate or professional level. Nominees may be alumni who graduated five or more years ago, former staff members and/or former volunteers of Upper St. Clair High School. Read more
