Now scheduling kindergarten registration appointments

kindergarten registration Kindergarten registration for incoming Upper St. Clair kindergarten students and their families will be held mid-March and early-April at each of the district’s three elementary schools as follows:

  • Baker Elementary: Wednesday, March 20 and Thursday, April 4
  • Eisenhower Elementary: Thursday, March 21 and Tuesday, April 2
  • Streams Elementary: Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, April 3

Appointments, which last approximately 20 minutes, will be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each of the registration days. To schedule a kindergarten registration appointment online, click the appropriate link below:

Families will complete the registration process at the school in their attendance area and meet with school community members that may include the principal, teachers, school nurse, school counselor and parent association representatives. Incoming kindergarten students will complete a variety of readiness screenings and activities.

The school-based registration process is an important transition activity for incoming kindergarten students as well as their parents/guardians.

“Students and their families will interact with a variety of school personnel who will help ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten,” Director of Student Support Services Amy Pfender said.

Registration packets, containing all of the necessary registration forms, will be available for pick-up at the elementary schools beginning Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019. Families are encouraged to obtain packets during school hours and return completed forms at the time of registration. When picking up packets, families will be asked for identification that includes home address in order to confirm elementary school assignment.

Students registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2019, to be enrolled for the 2019-20 school year. Proof of residency within the Upper St. Clair School District is required for enrollment.

Upper St. Clair School District operates a half-day kindergarten program. The morning program is from 8:15 – 10:55 a.m. and the afternoon program is from 12:05 – 2:45 p.m. A Kindergarten-Plus as well as before and after school programs are offered at each elementary school through Extended Day Services.

Incoming kindergarten families may elect to apply for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which is offered at Streams Elementary. All Eisenhower and Baker attendance area families – except those with older siblings currently in the PYP program at Streams – must complete kindergarten registration at their home school as determined by the elementary attendance area map. Incoming kindergarten families with siblings currently enrolled at Streams and who are requesting the IB PYP program may schedule their registration appointment at Streams.

PYP serves students in kindergarten through grade 4. Due to space limitations, preference is given to students whose home school is Streams and/or those with siblings already enrolled in the program. A wait list is maintained annually. The deadline for PYP application forms is Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

Families in the Streams attendance area who do not wish to enroll in PYP may elect to have their child attend Baker Elementary. Registration should be completed at Baker Elementary. The deadline for Streams parents to select Baker is also Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
