Partners in Education meeting set for Nov. 15

Apple icon Upper St. Clair School District’s Partners in Education (PIE) group’s fall presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, in Boyce Middle School’s large group instruction room.

Ashley Mullen from the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (OVR) will be on hand to discuss OVR supports and services and to provide information, advocacy and education to prepare students for transition to adult life and employment. Students who have an Individualized Educational Program (IEP), a 504 Plan, or who are involved with a school's Student Assistance Program may be appropriate referrals to OVR programs and services. Information will be shared on a variety of programs and services including career exploration, transition plans, Goodwill’s GoodSTEPS, Early Reach and P.E.T.S.

Families with an eligible student with a disability may receive assistance from OVR to help students to:

  • Plan for his/her career,
  • Find a job that matches his/her abilities, interests and needs,
  • Work with an employer or college to ensure the student receives reasonable accommodations when he/she needs them, and
  • Much more!

For more information about the upcoming PIE program or to RSVP, contact Parent Representative Frances Scher at or Assistant Director of Student Support Services Melissa Garvin at or 412.833.1600 ext. 2113.

“We hope families will come learn about the supports and services available to our students both in and out of school,” Ms. Garvin said. “It is never too early to begin exploring careers for our students.”

Partners in Education (PIE), a committee of the Upper St. Clair School District Parent Teacher Council, provides support to families of students who receive special education services. The committee offers a variety of programming for parents of children of all ages. In addition, PIE provides an informal opportunity for parents to meet, share resources and build relationships.

The next PIE meeting will be held in January 2019.
