Open Mic set for Dec. 5
The Upper St. Clair Parent Teacher Council will host its semiannual Open Mic at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, in the Boyce Middle School theatre. The December event will focus on safety and security.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. John T. Rozzo, accompanied by a team of administrators, will be on hand to discuss many of the district’s safety initiatives – including introducing the district’s school police officers.
“School safety has been an important focus for our district and for all schools throughout the nation,” Dr. Rozzo said. “We look forward to sharing information about the role our school police officers play within the school culture as well as additional initiatives that are designed to protect the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of our students.”
The event was originally slated for November; however, the Open Mic was rescheduled to allow additional time to finalize the hiring and assignment of the district’s full school police force. One officer is expected to be hired in November and, hopefully, join the district’s staff in time for the Dec. 5 event.
“We have recruited an incredible group of highly experienced, highly skilled officers who are committed to making meaningful connections within our school community,” Dr. Rozzo said. “I’m looking forward to our families having the opportunity to meet these dedicated professionals.”
Once the school police force is at full staff, School Police Chief Sean Bryson will make final decisions regarding the officers’ school assignments.
“While we typically host the fall Open Mic earlier in the school year, the opportunity for families to meet their school-specific police officer will be valued and worth the wait,” Suzanne Wynne, PTC president, said.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to register and submit their questions online (click here to register online). This process, which has been used for the last several years, enables district administrators to more effectively adapt their presentation to meet the needs of the audience.
The next PTC Open Mic event will be held in the spring. The fall event is typically scheduled for 7 p.m. while the spring event is held in the morning.
