2017-18 Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration for incoming Upper St. Clair kindergarten students and their families is currently underway. Those who have not yet registered are asked to pick-up a registration packet, containing all of the necessary registration forms, at the school within their assigned attendance area during school hours (8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.):
- Baker Elementary: 2300 Morton Road
- Eisenhower Elementary: 100 Warwick Drive
- Streams Elementary: 1560 Ashlawn Drive
When picking up packets, families will be asked for identification that includes home address in order to confirm elementary school assignment.
Families are encouraged to return completed forms to the district’s central office as soon as possible. Central office, located at 1820 McLaughlin Run Road, are open from 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Enter the building through the main doors, the school district offices are straight ahead. Once inside district offices, please dial ext. 2283 for registration assistance.
Incoming kindergarten families may elect to apply for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which is offered at Streams Elementary. PYP serves students in kindergarten through grade 4. Due to space limitations, preference is given to students whose home school is Streams. A wait list is maintained annually. The deadline for PYP application forms is Friday, April 21, 2017.
Families in the Streams attendance area who do not wish to enroll in PYP may elect to have their child attend Baker Elementary. School visits to Baker will be arranged on an individual basis. The deadline for Streams parents to select Baker is also Friday, April 21, 2017.
This year marks a change in the registration process, which previously only included the handing in of forms and residency verification. Beginning this spring, school officials are leveraging this opportunity as a transition activity for incoming kindergarten students.
“Students and their families will interact with a variety of school personnel who will help ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten,” Director of Student Support Services Amy Pfender said. “In particular, we are excited about providing basic screenings. As a mom, this is how I first learned that my own daughter needed glasses.”
Appointments, which last approximately 20 minutes, will be scheduled later this spring/summer. Families will be contacted to arrange registration appointments in order to meet with school community members that may include a teacher, librarian, nurse, school counselor and parent association representative. Incoming kindergarten students will complete vision and hearing screenings.
Students registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2017, to be enrolled for the 2017-18 school year. Proof of residency within the Upper St. Clair School District is required for enrollment.
Upper St. Clair School District operates a half-day kindergarten program. The morning program is from 8:15 – 10:55 a.m. and the afternoon program is from 12:05 – 2:45 p.m. A Kindergarten-Plus as well as before and after school programs are offered at each elementary school through Extended Day Services.
