2017-18 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration
Feb. 2, 2017
Kindergarten registration for incoming Upper St. Clair kindergarten students and their families will be held mid-March at each of the district’s three elementary schools as follows:
  • Baker Elementary: Tuesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 22
  • Eisenhower Elementary: Thursday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 21
  • Streams Elementary: Wednesday, March 15 and Monday, March 20
Families will complete the registration process at the school in their attendance area and meet with school community members that may include a teacher, librarian, nurse, school counselor and parent association representative. Incoming kindergarten students will complete vision and hearing screenings.

This year marks a change in the registration process, which previously only included the handing in of forms and residency verification. Beginning this spring, school officials are leveraging this opportunity as a transition activity for incoming kindergarten students.

“Students and their families will interact with a variety of school personnel who will help ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten,” Director of Student Support Services Amy Pfender said. “In particular, we are excited about providing basic screenings. As a mom, this is how I first learned that my own daughter needed glasses.”

Appointments, which last approximately 20 minutes, will be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. To schedule a kindergarten registration appointment online, click the appropriate link below:Registration packets, containing all of the necessary registration forms, will be available for pick-up at the elementary schools beginning Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017. Families are encouraged to obtain packets during school hours and return completed forms at the time of registration. When picking up packets, families will be asked for identification that includes home address in order to confirm elementary school assignment.

Students registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2017, to be enrolled for the 2017-18 school year. Proof of residency within the Upper St. Clair School District is required for enrollment.

Upper St. Clair School District operates a half-day kindergarten program. The morning program is from 8:15 – 10:55 a.m. and the afternoon program is from 12:05 – 2:45 p.m. A Kindergarten-Plus as well as before and after school programs are offered at each elementary school through Extended Day Services.

Incoming kindergarten families may elect to apply for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which is offered at Streams Elementary. All Eisenhower and Baker attendance area families – including those with older siblings currently in the PYP program at Streams – must complete kindergarten registration at their home school as determined by the elementary attendance area map. PYP serves students in kindergarten through grade 4. Due to space limitations, preference is given to students whose home school is Streams. A wait list is maintained annually. The deadline for PYP application forms is Friday, April 14, 2017.

Families in the Streams attendance area who do not wish to enroll in PYP may elect to have their child attend Baker Elementary. Registration should be completed at Streams Elementary. School visits to Baker will be arranged on an individual basis. The deadline for Streams parents to select Baker is also Friday, April 14, 2017.
