    English Credit Recovery

    For students currently in grades 9-12

    • June 18 - July 26, 2019 (Blended: online and on-site)
    • REQUIRED ON-SITE ATTENDANCE: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Location: Upper St. Clair High School

    This Credit Recovery course for English or Mathematics is designed for students in grades 9-12 who have previously taken this course, but have not demonstrated successful completion or achievement.  The content of this course will be delivered in a blended format (online and on-site) under the direction of our teaching staff.  This format will offer the students the greatest flexibility and support in successfully completing his/her coursework.  On-site attendance at the High School will be required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Student progress will be monitored and reported on a regular basis to parents, school counselors, or other designated school representatives.  Students have the opportunity to attend sessions for six weeks, but the duration of the course may be shorter depending on the amount of time students devote to working on the course outside of the REQUIRED attendance days.  Students may access the course at any time, from any location and are required to work on the course throughout the weeks - on-site and at home - to ensure successful completion by July 26, 2019.  Registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.  Please contact the Counseling Department directly with questions regarding registration fees.

    Math Credit Recovery

    Wellness 

    For students currently in grades 9-10

    • June 17 - July 11, 2019 (No Class July 4)
    • 7:30 - 11:30 AM
    • Location: Upper St. Clair High School
    High School Credit: One (1) PhysEd Credit/Session

    This course is designed for students who either have not met the requirements of a previous year’s wellness education class or a student who wishes to complete next year’s wellness education requirement over the summer to ease the student’s schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. The Summer Wellness calendar will be distributed on the first day of class. ALL COURSE WORK AND MAKE-UP WORK MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN GRADE LEVEL. ALL HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN ONE SESSION.

    For students entering 11th Grade (30 hours) -- Choose ONE Session:

    • Session 1: June 17 - June 26 (June 27 & 28 make-up days)
    • Session 2:July 1 - July 11, No Class July 4 (July 12 and 15 make-up days)

    For students entering 10th Grade (Semesters 1 and 2) -- Choose to take one semester or take both sessions to complete a full year:

    • Session 1: (30 hours - Semester 1) June 17 - June 26 (June 27 & 28 - make-up days)
    • Session 2: (30 hours - Semester 2) July 1 - July 11, No Class July 4 (July 12 & 15 make-up days)

    High School STEAM Academy

    For students currently in grades 8-11

    • June 17-21, 2019
    • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • Location:  Upper St. Clair High School
    High School Credit: One (1) Elective Credit

    The academy provides students experience in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). Students will select one of the following courses:   Chemistry and Art,  FabLab - Forms and Fluctuations or Sculpture – Abstract In Its Natural Form courses can be counted toward MYP technology elective requirement. (Students should bring their own lunch each day.)

    • Chemistry and Art: Unleash your inner artist – and learn some chemistry too. How can Art and Chemistry be related? This interdisciplinary course investigates the science of materials that go into the making of art media and materials. It also develops the student’s artistic knowledge and skills while completing a studio art project that reinforces the chemical properties that they are learning.
    • Sculpture – Abstract In Its Natural Form: Explore what can happen when you blend synthetic materials and the natural world. Here you will discover the possibilities of creating a sculpture that is influenced by our environment. Various processes and materials will be used, including GMAW / MIG welding. Create a sculpture that is in motion and inspired by the world around us.
    • FabLab - Forms and Fluctuations:  Start with an idea and then turn it into reality using the FabLab and digital fabrication. Begin with a group projects and then design and fabricate a personal project using the CNC routers, laser engravers, and 3D printers.

    *Students should bring their own bagged lunch to the camp each day

    High School Leadership Academy

    For students currently in grades 8-11

    • 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • Location: Upper St. Clair High School
    High School Credit: One (1) Elective Credit

    The USCHS Leadership Academy is a one-week summer workshop offering students exposure to leadership concepts and practices.  Students identify their leadership strengths and learn how these skills can be used to make them successful in all stages of life.  Through experiential learning strategies, group projects, and hands-on activities, students experience the application of leadership skills, building confidence in their abilities and enhancing their capacity to serve in leadership roles.  Students leave the USCHS Leadership Academy with a Personalized Leadership Plan to assist with their development of leadership skills in the future.  The Leadership Academy is open to all 2018-2019 USC High School students.  *Note - Students must take the Leadership Academy in sequential order: I, then II, then III.
