Care Solace: Grant supports mental health coordination services
Upper St. Clair School District is offering additional support to its students, staff and families through a new partnership with Care Solace, a resource that helps connect individuals with local mental health-related programs and substance-use treatment centers.
The School Board approved a two-year contract with Care Solace on Sept. 20, 2022. The total cost to the district for the two-year contract is $26,000, which is fully funded by a recent safety grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).
Care Solace has staff available online or by phone 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, to help identify local practitioners or programs and to secure appointments. Care Solace’s services are entirely free and optional for Upper St. Clair students, staff and their families.
“We are excited about the partnership with Care Solace because this initiative has come about from direct feedback from families,” Dr. Sharon Suritsky, deputy assistant superintendent, said. “We have had a growing number of students with social, emotional and mental health needs. Despite the work the district has tried to do to assist those families, it’s been incredibly hard to access those outside services.”
Students and families can use the service directly or they can contact their school counselor for assistance. Care Solace’s care coordination services are free to Upper St. Clair School District families.
