Chromebook & Google Account Project Information

• Chromebook collection date: May 29
• Account deactivation date: June 5, at 11:59 PM

To participate in graduation practice, Chromebooks must be turned in to the Technology Department.

Chromebooks that are not actively in use can be turned in early, starting May 26, 2026, at the SMART Desk in the Library.

If your Chromebook is damaged, please submit a help desk ticket to smartdesk@uscstudents.org to inform us of the damage before turning in your device.

At 11:59 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026, graduated seniors uscstudents.org account will be deactivated. Any content the senior wishes to save must be exported using Google Takeout before this time, as their account and associated data will not be accessible after deactivation.

DO NOT simply share your files with a personal email account, as the link will not work. Students MUST use Google Takeout. It is recommended that the Google Takeout process be started at least one week before deactivation. Depending on the amount of content, the export process may take several days to complete. Please refer to the links below for more information and a tutorial.

Any services or accounts that use the student's uscstudents.org email address for communication or login (such as the College Board for SAT or AP test scores, ACT, college admissions offices, scholarships, etc.) should be changed to use a personal email address BEFORE the account is deactivated.

What happens to data in students' Google Accounts?
The following Google services data will be automatically migrated and carried over into the next school year:

• Anything within Google Drive
  • Docs
  • Sheets
  • Slides
• Emails
• Calendars
• Contacts

Data from the Google services listed below will not automatically transfer to the next school year.

• Google Photos
• Bookmarks
• Google Keep

Students should use Google Takeout to save this data if they wish to save it for the future. Follow the instructions in this Knowledge Base article to start that process: https://support.uscsd.k12.pa.us/kb/article/28

The following Chromebook app content must be moved manually to Google Drive if students wish to retain the items:

• Camera Roll

In addition to the above, Google Sites and associated data will not carry over and cannot be exported, as Google does not provide an export option.
 

Summer Activities & Chromebooks

• No Chromebooks: From early June until mid-July, no student will have a school-issued device.
• No Google Services: From June 8 to July 6, you will not be able to log into Gmail, Drive, or Gemini. This also includes any apps that use "Sign in with Google" (like Kami). While students will not have access to view emails from June 8 to July 6, emails will continue to be received and delivered to their accounts.
• Canvas & Maia Learning: Students can still log in to Canvas and Maia Learning. While they will not get email notifications from Canvas during the pause, they can still use the Canvas inbox to message teachers.
  Note: If you are participating in a summer program during June or July, please plan ahead, as you will not have access to your Google files or a Chromebook during the migration period.

Applying for opportunities post-graduation
If students are currently in the process of applying to colleges or universities, or will soon begin, it is important that they use a personal email address, not their uscstudents.org email, when applying to or contacting these institutions.

If they have already provided their uscstudents.org email address, please contact those institutions to update it before June 8. We understand that they may receive time-sensitive emails over the summer, and we want to ensure they can still receive them. Any emails received in their uscstudents.org email account from June 8 to July 6 will not be accessible to you until July 6.

Email addresses (@uscstudents.org) and passwords will remain the same and will not change as a result of this project.

Elementary students will turn in their district-issued Chromebooks in their home elementary building between May 27 and June 2. 

The Google Account migration process will have minimal impact on elementary students. 

Student Chromebooks will be returned to students shortly after the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.

The Technology Department needs to collect all Chromebooks to update them and prepare them for the 2026–2027 school year. During this time, we will also update how student Google accounts are set up.

Elementary School
    •    May 27-June 2

Middle School
    •    Grades 7–8: June 1
    •    Grades 5–6: June 2

High School
    •    Grade 12: May 29
    •    Grades 9–11: June 2–3

Chromebooks will be available for pickup at the High School in late July for students entering grades 6-12 in the 2026-27 school year.

Exact dates and times will be published closer to July.

Students entering grades 1-4, grades 6-8, and grades 10-12 in the 2026-27 school year, will receive the same Chromebook back. Students entering Grades K, 5, and 9 will receive a new model Chromebook.

No. All Chromebooks will be collected in early June and returned in late July. This includes students participating in USCSD-offered summer programs.
 

Teachers have been made aware of this project and will modify their plans accordingly. Students will still have access to Canvas and other non-Google resources throughout the summer.
 

Access to school Google accounts will be paused starting June 8.

This includes access to:
    •    Gmail
    •    Google Drive
    •    Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides
    •    Gemini
    •    Any apps that use “Sign in with Google” (for example: Kami)

Canvas, Maia Learning, and other resources that do not rely on Google will continue to function during the entire summer.

Access will return on July 6, 2026.
 

No. Student email addresses and passwords will stay the same.
 

Grades K–8
Files will NOT move to the new account. If students wish to keep any documents, presentations, pictures, or other files, they must save them somewhere else before June 8. An example would be to save files to an external USB Drive.

Grades 9–12
Google Drive files and emails will automatically move between accounts. No action is required unless a student is graduating or leaving the school district.
 

Emails will still be delivered to each student's account. However, emails will not be readable until July 6.
 

Yes. Students can use Canvas.

However, it is important to remember that:

• Students will not receive email notifications from Canvas while their Google Account is paused.
• Students should use the Canvas Inbox to communicate with teachers.

Yes. Maia Learning will still work during the summer.
 

Please download or save any needed files before June 8. Google Drive will not be accessible from June 8 to July 6.

No. If applying to colleges, scholarships, or jobs, always use a personal email address.
 

Please contact the school or organization and update the email address to a personal one before June 8 to continue to receive important messages.
