Streams Elementary fourth grader Maya Bhandari placed second in the Girls 10U (56 lbs) division, while Baker Elementary first grader Kellan Vaughan secured a third-place finish in the Boys 6U (61 lbs) division.

Maya and Kellan were among five Upper St. Clair youth wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament—an impressive achievement in one of Pennsylvania’s most competitive youth wrestling events. They were joined by Maxwell Bhandari, a sixth grader at Boyce Middle School; Tysson Hoberman, a third grader at Streams Elementary; and Teagen Smith, a second grader at Eisenhower Elementary.

Qualification for the Keystone State Championships is highly competitive. The top seven wrestlers from each weight class across Pennsylvania’s five regions earn a spot at states, while only the top five in the 6U division advance. Upper St. Clair competes in the Southwest Region, which includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Washington, Westmoreland and part of Indiana counties.
