USCHS students medal at Science Olympiad

Upper St. Clair High School students finished in the top five of five different events at the Southwestern Pennsylvania Science Olympiad Regional Tournament. The event was held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at PennWest California.

Upper St. Clair students won medals in the following events:

  • 2nd place: Write It Do It – Jamie Barrett & Yuhong Shi
  • 4th place: Codebusters – Ian Dvorin, Aaron Jiang & Priyaharshini Sivakumar
  • 5th place: Robot Tour – Rohan Inampudi & Aaron Jiang
  • 5th place: Experimental Design - Rohan Inampudi, Aaron Jiang & Priyaharshini Sivakumar
  • 5th place: Geologic Mapping – Yuhong Shi & Maria Alfredson-Themudo

In total, 11 Upper St. Clair High School students participated in the regional competition that included 19 school districts.

“Students competed in a variety of science events including everything from knowledge tests to building events to lab practicals,” Casey Teagarden, USCHS gifted education teacher, said. “It was a great showing, especially given that this is only our second year competing!”

The Pennsylvania Science Olympiad is composed of six geographical regions. Upper St. Clair competes in the Southwest Region, which includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Regional winners compete in the state tournament on April 26, 2025, at Penn State Altoona.
