USC Recognized Nationally for Excellence in Music Education

Best Communities for Music Education

The Upper St. Clair School District has been named a 2026 Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) recipient for the 11th consecutive year, recognizing the district’s sustained commitment to providing high-quality music education for all students.

Best Communities for Music Education

The annual designation, sponsored by the NAMM Foundation, honors school districts across the country that demonstrate outstanding achievement in music access, participation and support.

Upper St. Clair is one of 16 districts in Allegheny County, 141 in Pennsylvania and 1,008 nationwide to receive the distinction this year.

“Earning this recognition for the 11th year in a row speaks to the strength and consistency of our music program and the educators who make it possible,” Dr. Amy Pfender, deputy superintendent, said. “We are proud to offer students meaningful opportunities to explore, create and grow through music as part of a well-rounded education.”

According to the NAMM Foundation, award recipients are selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. Applications are verified by an independent research and evaluation firm to ensure rigor and credibility.

In a statement to awardees, a NAMM Foundation official praised districts for their dedication to music education.

“Your collective efforts have been instrumental in making music part of a well-rounded education for your students,” the statement read. “We applaud your community’s unwavering commitment to creating an environment where each child can learn and grow with music.”

Other Allegheny County school districts recognized in 2026 include Bethel Park, Chartiers Valley, Clairton City, East Allegheny, Fox Chapel Area, Moon Area, Mount Lebanon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland, Shaler Area, South Allegheny, South Fayette Township, West Allegheny and Woodland Hills.

Now in its 27th year, the BCME program continues to spotlight school districts nationwide for their dedication to ensuring all students have access to music education as part of a comprehensive academic experience.
