Upper St. Clair Freshman Wins National Dance Title

Haylie King - 2025 National Teen Miss Dance Educators of America

Haylie King, a rising freshman at Upper St. Clair High School, was named the 2025 National Teen Miss Dance Educators of America (DEA) this summer after a rigorous eight-day national competition held at the TPC Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Students from around the world traveled to compete for the prestigious title in July. To be crowned champion, participants were required to earn top scores in multiple categories, including a solo stage routine, proficiency exams in five dance genres — tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop and acrobatics — and an interview with a panel of judges and moderators.

Haylie not only delivered the highest-scoring performance of the competition with her solo routine, “You Can’t Catch Me Now,” choreographed by Sarah Georgiana, but also earned the highest proficiency scores in all five dance genres.

As part of her title, Haylie will tour with Dance Educators of America next season, assisting renowned choreographers, demonstrating in classes, working backstage and performing her winning solo at exhibitions nationwide.

Haylie is excited to begin her journey as the reigning Teen Miss Dance Educators of America.

“I’m so grateful to get this opportunity to reign with the other title winners,” Haylie said. “Everyone at DEA has been so nice and everyone has incredible talent so to be chosen for this title means more than anything.”

Haylie is a competitive dancer at Dance by Cami and a member of the Upper St. Clair Dance Team.

The DEA organization is dedicated to promoting dance education and artistry, with a focus on inspiring and educating dancers. The National Teen Miss is just one of the titles awarded at the annual DEA Nationals; others include Miss DEA, Teen Mr. DEA, Pre-Teen Miss DEA, Pre-Teen Mr. DEA, Junior Miss DEA, Junior Mr. DEA, Small Fry Miss DEA and Small Fry Mr. DEA.
