Two Seniors Inducted into National Technical Honor Society

Nicholas, who is also a member of the Upper St. Clair High School National Honor Society, is enrolled in Parkway West’s Electrical Systems program. In addition to his academic and technical studies, he is a nationally certified Level 1 firefighter and serves with the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department. Following graduation in June, he plans to serve as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force.

John studies Culinary Arts at Parkway West and has already gained extensive hands-on experience in the field. He works as a line chef at the Upper St. Clair Country Club and participates in a cooperative education placement at Eleven in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, where he works the grill. He recently won the district-level SkillsUSA competition in the Culinary Division, qualifying to compete at the state competition in Hershey in April. After graduation, he plans to attend the Culinary Institute of America.

To be eligible for induction into the National Technical Honor Society, students must complete at least one full year at Parkway West, maintain five or fewer unexcused absences, earn an A average in their technical program and a B or higher in their academic courses, and successfully complete an interview process.

Inductees are selected based on seven attributes: leadership, scholarship, skills, honesty, citizenship, service and responsibility.

The National Technical Honor Society honors and recognizes outstanding student achievement in career and technical education. The organization serves more than 100,000 active members annually in secondary and postsecondary chapters nationwide.
