Tommy and Jeffrey are among 1,000 high school students who are moving on to the three-part national exam, administered April 5-13. Each of the three parts takes approximately two hours to complete. Tommy completed his national exam on Saturday, April 5 at John Carroll University in Ohio, and Jeffery will be taking it this Saturday, April 12 at Carnegie Mellon University.

Sponsored by the American Chemical Society, the USNCO program is a competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry.

The program has four tiers: Local Chemistry Olympiad Exams, National Chemistry Olympiad Exams, Study Camp for the 20 top-scoring students from the national exam, and International Chemistry Olympiad Exams for four students chosen based on their performance at the Study Camp.

This year’s international Olympiad will be held on July 5-14 in Dubai.
