Students excel at German Day

German Day award winners

Upper St. Clair High School students earned first place, second place and third place at the 25th annual Three Rivers German Day event on Feb. 25, 2025, at Washington & Jefferson College.

The following USCHS students placed first in the Drama category – Gosia Romek, Sophie Einfeldt, Olivia Fuscaldo, Sal Crawford, Kaia Petrick, Nishma Ghimire, Jillian Paoly, Mark Torres and. Stephen Li.

Olivia Fuscaldo’s painting earned second place in the Art category and Sophie Einfeldt’s drawing placed third in the Art category. 

German Day is an event for high schools around the region to come together to showcase their language ability, cultural knowledge, and creativity. Approximately 400 students from western Pennsylvania and West Virginia participate each year.

Led by German teachers Jacob Reis and Lynne Kopaz, 20 Upper St. Clair High School students from various German classes and German Club participated in the event. 

German Day competition categories include writing, art, poetry recitation, proverb poster, music, drama and the culture bowl.
