Students in the Upper St. Clair School District recently participated in an interactive program and workshop with Cello Fury, a nationally recognized music ensemble that features three cellists and a drummer.

Upper St. Clair’s Orchestra Director Karen Chisholm organized the event for the district’s music students in grades five through 12.

“The audience at last Friday’s concert at Boyce Middle School included music students from Boyce, Fort Couch and Upper St. Clair High School who thoroughly enjoyed the high energy performance,” she said. “After the set from Cello Fury the high school orchestra had a workshop and then a side-by-side concert.”

The cellists of Cello Fury include Cecelia Caughman, Simon Cummings, and Nicole Meyers.

“The group of three cellists performed music ranging from rock, classical and original compositions that merge many genres,” Ms. Chisholm said.

According to Paula Scandrol, Boyce Middle School music teacher, the program was very well received by her fifth and sixth grade students.

“This was a unique opportunity for our students,” Ms. Scandrol said. “We hope that it will generate future interest in the strings program.”

In addition to school programs, Cello Fury hosts several music camps for violinists, violists, cellists and bassists ages 7-17 throughout the Pittsburgh region.

“They host a rock camp in the summer, which would be a great way for students to keep up their playing and try out new techniques and musical styles,” Ms. Chisholm said.
