Junior Performs in All-State Orchestra

Upper St. Clair High School junior clarinetist Kiki Smith performed as a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra April 22-25, 2026, at the Kalahari Convention Center in the Poconos.

The All-State Orchestra was comprised of 151 student musicians from across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Under the direction of Dr. Paul Shewan, professor of instrumental studies at Roberts Wesleyan University, the orchestra performed music by Berlioz, Copland, Elgar and Moncayo. 

In addition to orchestra, Kiki is a member of the high school’s Honors Wind Ensemble and previously participated in marching band. She is a student leader of the Chinese Club and was recently inducted into the National Honor Society. 

At Upper St. Clair, Kiki receives instruction from Karen Chisholm, orchestra director, and Nick Deutsch, band director.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization of more than 3,700 members, dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities. PMEA is affiliated with The National Association for Music Education.
