Gymnast shines at national championships

Eighth grade gymnast Avery Irvin placed fourth in the nation in vault – finishing 23rd all around at the 2025 USA Gymnastics Men’s and Women’s Development Program National Championships, held May 9-11, 2025, in Salt Lake City.
To qualify for nationals, Avery placed in the top seven at the USA Gymnastics Region 7 competition, which includes all of Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware West Virginia and Maryland.
Avery, a student at Upper St. Clair’s Fort Couch Middle School, is a member of the Xquisite competitive gymnastics team that trains at X-Cel Gymnastics in Cranberry Township. A gymnast since age 3, she practices more than 20 hours each week. Her favorite event is the uneven bars.
The 2025 USA Gymnastics Men’s and Women’s Development Program National Championships featured the top Level 10 women and Level 8-10 men’s athletes. In addition to awarding all-around, apparatus and regional team champions, the Women’s 2025 Development Program National Team and the Men’s Level 8/9 Junior National Team were selected.
