Four selected for PMEA Band events

Four student selected for PMEA bands

Four Upper St. Clair High School musicians have been selected by competitive audition to perform in upcoming Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) band events.

Four student selected for PMEA bands

Three earned seats in the PMEA District 1 Honors Band:

  • Kaitlyn Burns – Clarinet 2
  • Andy Scherer – Alto 1, First Chair
  • Kiki Smith – Clarinet 1, First Chair

Hundreds of students from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland and Washington counties auditioned for the ensemble. Co-hosted by Bethel Park and North Hills high schools, the PMEA District 1 Honors Band will take place Nov. 21-23, 2025.

Dr. Andrew Boysen Jr., conductor of the wind symphony and professor of music at the University of New Hampshire, will serve as guest conductor. The Honors Band concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at North Hills Middle School.

In addition, Kaitlyn, Andy and Kiki, along with Thomas Mallison (Euphonium), were selected for the PMEA District 1 Band Festival.

Co-hosted by Brentwood, West Mifflin and South Park high schools, the festival will be held Feb. 5-7, 2026, at South Park High School. The guest conductor will be Dennis Glocke, who served as director of concert bands at Penn State University for 24 years. The concert is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7.
