Four selected for honors orchestra

PMEA District 1 Honors Orchestra

Four Upper St. Clair High School musicians were recently selected for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors String Orchestra.

Seniors Roselyn Goldstein, violin, and Darcy Vilkner, cello, along with junior violinists Yuzuki Watanabe and Elena Wetzel successfully auditioned on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at Fox Chapel Area High School.

Approximately 180 students from more than 20 area schools participated in the audition process. Eighty-nine were selected for the ensemble.

“It is an honor for our Upper St. Clair students to be in this audition-based group,” Karen Chisholm, Upper St. Clair orchestra director, said.

The two-day PMEA District 1 Honors String Orchestra Festival will be held Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Upper St. Clair High School. The festival will conclude with a 3 p.m. concert that Saturday, Nov. 16.

PMEA District 1 encompasses Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties. District honors festival musicians have the opportunity to advance to Region, All State, Eastern Division and National NAfME groups.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians.
