Esports teams advance in competition

The Upper St. Clair High School Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Esports Team has qualified to compete in the Winter State Finals of the Pennsylvania Scholastic Esports League (PSEL) on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, at Harrisburg University.
Team members include Sam Donahey, Jack Schalk and Auri Tarabishy.
In addition to the Winter State Finals, a five-person Super Smash Bros. team and the Valorant team advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports League (PIEA) conference finals. The matches are set for Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at Waynesburg University.
The Valorant team includes Luke An, Sam An, Valintin Cannic, Roman Guerra, Caleb Harvey, Vedant Naik and Varun Thangella. The PIEA Super Smash Bros. team includes Ricky Crawford, Sam Donahey, Chance Miles, Jack Schalk and Auri Tarabishy.
The Upper St. Clair High School Esports program is led by science teacher Monica Erwin, who was named a Scholastic Fellow by the Network of Academic Scholastic Esports Federation in 2022 and Scholastic Mentor for 2023.
