USCHS students kick-off Special Olympics torch run

Upper St. Clair High School students helped kick off the 13th annual Special Olympics Pennsylvania Be a Fan Torch Run on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at PNC Park. Local students and law enforcement officers carried the torch on a ceremonial run around the bases.
Over the next three days, more than 500 officers will run 2-4 mile segments to carry the “Flame of Hope” torch 150 miles to State College and light the cauldron ahead of the Summer Games. The Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s annual Summer Games will be held June 6-8 at Penn State University.
Upper St. Clair High School junior Victoria Zesch will be among the 2,000 athletes competing at the Summer Games. Victoria, a member of the South Hills Splash team, will be representing the Three Rivers Region in swimming.
The Special Olympics Summer Games is the largest statewide competition, bringing in more than 2,000 athletes and 750 coaches. Athletes compete in basketball, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, softball, swimming and tennis throughout the three-day event.
