Senior named Coca-Cola Regional Finalist
Jan. 24, 2024
Upper St. Clair High School senior Isaac Bernstein has been named a Regional Finalist in the 2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. He is one of only three in the Pittsburgh area, 15 in Pennsylvania and 250 in the nation to move to the next round of the selection process.“This is a huge accomplishment - these students have progressed to the second stage of selection after the review of 1,514 Semifinalists who were chosen from among more than 103,800 applicants hoping to be named Coca-Cola Scholars this year,” Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, said.
In October 2023, Isaac was notified of his Semifinalist status. At that time, he was one of only 12 in Allegheny County and 84 in Pennsylvania to earn that honor. Nationally, less than two percent of all applicants were selected as Semifinalists.
The 250 Regional Finalists will participate in virtual interviews with a committee of Scholar alumni and staff members in the coming weeks. Following these interviews, 150 of the 250 Regional Finalists will become Coca-Cola Scholars, receive a $20,000 scholarship, and be honored at the 2024 Scholars Banquet on April 25, 2024, in Atlanta.
In 2023, Isaac was selected as an 18 Under Eighteen honoree by the Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania for his efforts to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. As a 2023 High School Diplomat, he participated in a 10-day cultural enrichment experience in Japan last summer. Isaac has served as a peer tutor throughout high school and is an accomplished percussionist. In addition, he is a member of National Honor Society and the World Affairs Club.
“We believe that identifying these young leaders throughout the country and encouraging their passion for serving others not only empowers the students, but also lifts up those around them.” Ms. Hale Hopkins said. “The Coca-Cola system is dedicated to giving back to the communities they serve, and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is proud to be a part of that commitment.”
A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the country and The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States. With the addition of the 2024 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,900 Coke Scholars nationwide with over $84 million in scholarships over the course of 36 years.
