Future Problem Solvers
A team of four Upper St. Clair High School juniors placed second at the Future Problem Solving State Bowl on March 23, 2024, in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Prachi Chetlur, Anna Englemann, Isabel Vilensky and Sydney Waldron now advance to the international competition, which is set for June 5-9, 2024, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

To qualify for the Future Problem Solving International Conference, teams must finish first or second at their respective state finals.

The sophomore team of Sofia Alfredson-Themudo, Anoushka Barve, Sara Gillespie and Kaia Petrick earned a third-place finish as well as a second-place award for the presentation of their action plan.

Future Problem Solving is a research-based program introduced by Dr. E. Paul Torrance that consists of a six-step process through which students address complex issues and develop solutions. The program teaches problem-solving strategies, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, decision-making skills, and effective communication.
