Four Upper St. Clair High School juniors recently completed the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute (WSHI), a program for high school juniors from throughout the region who demonstrate a strong interest in science and engineering and who are of high scholastic standing. Participating students include Shrida Devaki, Anna Fera, Jiya Jithosh and Esha Lathia.

WSHI provides a forum for talented high school juniors to gain exposure to the latest advances in science, technology and engineering. Students have the opportunity to network with working professionals and interact with students from different schools who also have the same abilities and interests in science and engineering.

The program consists of Saturday-morning lectures, from October through March, on selected topics in science and engineering. Presenters include representatives from the NASA Glenn Research Center; Robert Morris University: Lasers and Mechatronics; Penn State University: Astronomy and Astrophysics; Penn State University: Environmental Engineering, Creativity and Innovation; Penn State University: Breazeale Nuclear Reactor; Westinghouse Electric Company: Nuclear Power; University of Pittsburgh: Bioengineering; University of Pittsburgh: Physics and Astronomy; University of Pittsburgh and McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine; and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: Department of Surgery.
