USCHS welcomes home Athletic Hall of Fame inductee
Nov. 2, 2023
It was a celebratory homecoming for 1995 Upper St. Clair High School graduate Tom Bogan. A 2004 inductee of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, he was unable to attend the annual event, held nearly 20 years ago. On Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, Tom received his award amongst friends, family and his high school wrestling coach.
During his tenure at Upper St. Clair High School, Tom was a standout wrestler – winning a PIAA state wrestling championship in 1995. This marked the school’s first of only two state wrestling titles in school history. Tom was a two-time WPIAL section champion; a two-time WPIAL finalist, winning the title in 1995; and a fourth place finisher at the 1994 PIAA state championships. In total, Tom won 110 high school matches, setting the school record at that time.
In addition, Tom was the first Upper St. Clair wrestler ever selected to represent Team Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh’s Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic. His 7-6 win over Team USA’s Isaac Wood helped Team Pennsylvania defeat Team USA, 24-19.
Among those in attendance at Saturday’s award presentation were Mack McGuire, a 2010 USCHS graduate and the school’s only other state wrestling champion, and Dr. Emil Deliere, who coached Tom and Mack during his long tenure as Upper St. Clair’s wrestling coach.
Earning an athletic scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tom wrestled for legendary coach Bill Lamb. Tom and his wife, Courtney, reside in Charlotte, N.C., with their children Avery, Colton and Davis.
Upper St. Clair kicks off the wrestling season later this month. This will mark the inaugural season for the school’s girls' wrestling program.
