Photo Gallery: Baker hosts A Salute to Our Veterans
Nov. 10, 2023
Baker Elementary School welcomed approximately 20 veterans to a school-wide assembly on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023. Each veteran was introduced by a student. Veterans included parents, uncles and aunts, and grandparents of students and staff members.
Dr. Patrick McClintock-Comeaux, principal, explained to students the significance and meaning of Veterans Day, and led Baker’s 450 students in saying, "Thank you for your service," to the veterans in attendance. In addition, fourth graders demonstrated how to correctly fold a flag and the meaning of the different folds. An ensemble of fourth grade students sang a choral number under the direction of Mrs. Shoemaker, and Caley Pham performed, "The Star Spangled Banner."
Members of the 2nd Battalion U.S. Army Reserve Careers Group presented the flag. Two Baker fathers - Lt. Col. Dana Stockton and Lt. Col. Erik Schillo - spoke to the students about their experiences in the U.S. Air Force.
The Veterans Day event was coordinated by Mrs. Nichole Trollman, fourth grade teacher, who was able to introduce her dad, a veteran.
