Eight named to district jazz ensembles
Eight Upper St. Clair High School musicians successfully auditioned for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Jazz Ensembles on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023. The following students will represent Upper St. Clair at the Honors Jazz Festival:
Jazz Ensemble I
Anna Makoul, grade 12: Alto I
Gabe Pacella, grade 12: Trumpet II
Joy Tang, grade 11: Trumpet V
Jazz Ensemble II
Andy Scherer, grade 10: Tenor I
Carlee Santel, grade 11: Trumpet II
Patrick Wherry, grade 12: Trumpet IV
Brian McFerran, grade 12: Trombone I
James Barker, grade 11: Piano
The two-day PMEA District 1 Honors Jazz Band Festival will take place Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Moon Area High School. Guest directors are faculty members from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania – Dr. Jason Kush, assistant professor of music, and Dr. David Glover, associate professor of percussion.
The Upper St. Clair High School students are led by Dr. John Seybert, performing arts curriculum leader and director of high school bands.
PMEA District 1 encompasses Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties. District honors festival musicians have the opportunity to advance to Region, All State, Eastern Division and National NAfME groups.
