Boyce Girl Scouts brighten the Thanksgiving holiday for others
Nov. 21, 2023
Girl Scout Troop #28819 from Boyce Middle School recently brightened the Thanksgiving holiday for several area families. A full traditional Thanksgiving meal along with homemade cookies and handmade cards were delivered to 25 shut-ins and senior citizens from throughout the community.Participating Girls Scouts include fifth graders Lula Griffin, Molly Guarino, Cassidy King, Keirsten King, Kimberly Krofcheck, Elise Mostowy and Sarah Sakowitz. The troop is led by troop leaders Angie King and Dawn Mostowy.
The food was prepared by the Girl Scouts, their mothers and a volunteer from St. Gregory's Byzantine Catholic Church in Upper St. Clair. The people served through this community service project are members of St. Gregory's parish and other friends of the Girl Scouts in the greater community.
“The purpose was to make sure that these folks know that they are not forgotten even though they can't be with family and friends,” Mrs. Mostowy said. “It was a beautiful joint effort that brought a lot of joy to many.”
The food was provided by generous donations, including those from Dr. B. N. Roy, an Upper St. Clair physician and supporter of the Girl Scouts, and by donations from the Girl Scouts' families, and the South Hills Trader Joe's.
