Photo Gallery: Nearly 100 attend annual elementary STEAM camp
July 26, 2023
Upper St. Clair’s elementary STEAM Camp – “EdZOOcation” – recently wrapped up a week-long adventure that was filled with fun and learning. Nearly 100 campers in grades 1-4 attended the camp from July 10-14, 2023, at Baker Elementary School.
With a focus on zoo animals and their habitats, the camp welcomed several special guests. Representatives from Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium’s Zoomobile presented campers with information about animal habitats along with three special guests – a turtle, an owl and a snake. Sarris Candies’ new mascot, Franky-Twist, stopped by with treats and students learned the science behind making ice cream. Campers ended the week with a field trip to Oglebay Park’s Good Zoo in Wheeling, W.Va.
The elementary STEAM camp introduces students to the Engineering Design Process in a fun and hands-on way; learning it's okay to fail. Participants brainstorm in collaborative teams to explore the wonders of zoo animals along with learning to work as a team. The camp is directed by retired teacher Pam Dillie, along with teachers from Baker, Streams and Eisenhower.
