Statewide organization recognizes USC school psychologist

To be nominated, individuals must demonstrate one or more of ASPP’s core values, including advocacy, continuous improvement, collaboration, diversity, focus on children and youth, integrity and visionary leadership.
Ms. Dressler was nominated for this recognition by Dr. Dan Beck, Upper St. Clair High School assistant principal, for her collaborative efforts. She helps sponsor student-centered programs, including No Place For Hate, Stand Together and the Gay-Straight Alliance.
"While she can be observed seeking continuous improvement, a fierce advocate for equity and inclusion, or grounded in her beliefs with integrity leading the way - I'm writing to recognize her collaboration,” Dr. Beck said. “None of the other qualities that I respect about her would be able to be highlighted if she wasn't humbly a collaborator for all things student-centered.”
Dr. Beck noted that Ms. Dressler is widely sought out by Upper St. Clair High School students.
“In fact, when the Gay Straight Alliance needed a sponsor, students sought out Ms. Dressler,” he said. “She willingly took these students under her wing, and has provided a place of safety and respect for them to discuss goals and initiatives.”
Most recently, Ms. Dressler worked with students in Stand Together to bring school-wide programming to Upper St. Clair High School. Stand Together's mission is to increase awareness and reduce the stigma associated with mental health disorders. The group recently hosted a local author, Jordan Corcoran, who shared her lived experience with students regarding her battle with mental illness.
In addition to ASPP, she is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the Pennsylvania Association of Student Assistance Professionals. She currently serves as executive board secretary for ASPP and was recently selected to the NASP Communications Committee, which plans National School Psychology Week in November of each year.
School psychologists who are selected for ASPP’s Monthly Member Spotlight during the 2022-23 school year – including Ms. Dressler – will be considered for the ASPP School Psychologist of the Year award announced in the fall.
