Fifth grader advances in history and science bees

A Boyce Middle School student finished first in the regional finals of the History and Science bees on Saturday, March 25, 2023, in Charleston, W.Va. Fifth grader Tyler Marsh now advances to the national and international history competition and the national science competition.Sponsored by the International Academic Competitions, the bees are buzzer-based quiz competitions for elementary, middle and high school-aged students throughout the United States. The competition is categorized by several grade-level divisions: Varsity, grades 11 and 12; Junior Varsity, grades 10 and younger; 8th Grade Division; 7th Grade Division; 6th Grade Division; and Elementary School Division, which includes all students in grade five and younger.
Each of the bees is composed of three competition stages, including the Online Regional Qualifying Exam, the Regional Finals, and the National Championships.
Tyler joins three other Boyce Middle School students who previously qualified to advance in the competition. Sixth graders Arjun Kairi, Avik Pandey and Max Reyes participated in the Western Pennsylvania Regional Finals on Feb. 18, 2023, in Latrobe.
The National History, Geography and Science bees will be held June 1-4, 2023, in Arlington, Va. The International History Olympiad will take place July 23-31, 2023, in Rome, Italy. The International Environmental Science Olympiad is set for July 12-22, 2023, in Quito and Tena, Ecuador.
