Boyce students recognized for kindness and caring
Nine Boyce Middle School students were honored with Boyce PRIDE Awards on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, in the school’s large group instruction (LGI) room. Boyce PRIDE Awards, sponsored by the Boyce PTO, are a monthly celebration of kindness, hard work and achievement.
November PRIDE awardees include:
- Grade 5: Kip Hackett, Matty Hobbs, Will Hutterer, Maggie Qin and Chloe Slagle
- Grade 6: Beckett Harrell, Bella Liu, Jacob Mogillo and Katelyn Scott
Boyce Middle School staff members have the opportunity to nominate one or more students who have gone above and beyond in the areas of academics, attitude and/or peer relationships.
“The Boyce school community places a strong emphasis on working hard, being kind and demonstrating a caring attitude,” Dr. Dan O’Rourke, principal, said. “Our Boyce PRIDE Awards create the opportunity to recognize students for their positive actions.”
Nominating teachers or staff members prepare a brief narrative summarizing why the student should be recognized. This narrative is printed on a certificate and presented to the student awardee by Dr. O’Rourke and Dr. Christine Mussomeli, assistant principal. Boyce PRIDE Awardees are called to the LGI the first Monday of every month where they are recognized for their hard work. In addition to receiving a certificate and keychain, each student has his/her picture taken with Dr. O’Rourke. The photos are displayed outside the guidance classroom.
“The desire for students to display a caring attitude can only be reinforced if we recognize acts of kindness on a continual basis,” Dr. Mussomeli said. “There is no better way to start a week than our PRIDE Award Mondays.”
