Homecoming Week 2021 officially kicked-off on Sunday, Sept. 26 with the Hollywood Homecoming Parade followed by the annual powderpuff football game between the juniors and senior girls.
Dozens of USCHS students representing activities and athletic teams traveled along Panther Pass in the school’s second-ever Homecoming Parade. Participants included the Homecoming Court, football, auxiliary, girls soccer, cross country, girls volleyball, hip hop and dance, girls tennis, girls basketball, field hockey, girls golf, the Black Student Union, cheerleaders and crew.
The Homecoming Court includes the following seniors: Sarah Christensen, Kathleen Gianni, Marina Makoul, Tori Slagle, Izzy Yoos, Joey Baird, Jake Fisher, Andrew Miller, Porter Rauch and RJ Shontz.
This year boasted one of the largest turnouts for the powderpuff football game, which raised more than $1,000 to benefit St. Clair Hospital’s Breast Care Center. Ninety-three junior and senior girls participated and eight junior and senior varsity football players served as coaches. Following a late-game interception, the junior girls defeated the seniors, 14-7.
The powder puff game was organized by RJ Shontz, student council president, with numerous students volunteering throughout the event. Many thanks to football coaches Mike Junko and Tim Robbins who officiated the game; Pat Manion, social studies teacher, who served as the announcer; and Jake Reis, German teacher, for leading the pep band and auxiliary at halftime and throughout the game.
Homecoming Week is led by Upper St. Clair High School Student Council members in coordination with Mrs. Brooke Tarcson, activities coordinator, and building principals.
