USC crowns Homecoming King & Queen
Congratulations to Upper St. Clair High School seniors Joey Baird and Kathleen Gianni who were crowned Homecoming King and Queen during halftime of the varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.
Joey, son of Cindy & Andy Baird, is a member of the Best Buddies Club, has participated in track & field at USCHS, plays Miracle League baseball, and is an athlete in the Next Inning at the South Hills Miracle League. Joey plans on attending Project Search, a program that provides education and training for future job placement.
Kathleen, daughter of Neil and Kerry Gianni, serves as Student Council Senior Class President and is a varsity field hockey captain, a yearbook editor, a member of the National Honor Society, and a Play Like a Girl Club leader. Kathleen plans to attend college majoring in communications and journalism.
Members of the Homecoming Court include the following seniors:
Sarah Christensen: Sarah, daughter of Paul and Jennifer Christensen, is a Student Council executive officer, a Super Mentor, a member of the field hockey team, and a leader of the messenger and Young Life clubs. Sarah plans to major in business with a minor in ministry in college.
Jake Fisher: Jake, son of Brandon and Michele Fisher, is the four-year starting goaling on the varsity Upper St. Clair Ice Hockey Team, a member of the National Honor Society, and was chosen as a Junior Mentor and Natural Helper. Jake also volunteers with the Junior Panther Hockey Team. Jake plans to major in biology on the pre-dental track.
Marina Makoul: Marina, daughter of Joshua and Tammy Makoul, is our USCHS Marching Band high brass section leader, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Spark Girls into STEM and Kids Helping Kids clubs. Marina plans to pursue a degree in architecture.
Andrew Miller: Andrew, son of Kim and Chris Miller, is a drum major for the USCHS Marching Band, a yearbook editor, a member of the National Honor Society, and was selected as a Natural Helper. Andrew plans to attend a four-year college with a major in chemistry and a minor in psychology. His goal is to be a pediatrician or physician’s assistant.
Porter Rauch: Porter, son of Paul and Donna Rauch, is a member of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams. He serves as a volunteer with basketball youth camps. In college, Porter plans to pursue a degree in nursing and while continuing to play basketball.
RJ Shontz: RJ, son of Bob & Bonnie Shontz, is president of Student Council, a two-year captain of the cross country and track team, and a member of National Honor Society. He serves as a student representative on the USC School Board. RJ plans on majoring in math and secondary education with the goal of becoming a high school math teacher and, ultimately, a position in school administration.
Tori Slagle: Tori, daughter of Chris and Angie Slagle serves as Student Council vice-president, captain of the girls’ varsity golf team, yearbook editor, a Natural Helper, and a member of National Honor Society. Tori plans to study industrial engineering in college.
Izzy Yoos: Izzy, daughter of Tori and Jeff Yoos, is captain of the varsity girls’ tennis team, a member of National Honor Society, volunteers with the SHOP@USC program and was selected as a Junior Mentor and Natural Helper. Izzy plans to major in elementary education and minor in special education.
In the Homecoming football game, Upper St. Clair defeated Peters Township, 31-3. Next Friday, Oct. 8, Upper St. Clair travels to West Allegheny High School for another Allegheny Six Conference matchup. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
