Recent USC graduate places second in STEM challenge
Students in Dawn Mostowy’s Advanced Placement Biology classes – along with students from throughout the region – competed in the STEM Trivia Challenge. In addition to Kara’s second place finish, Upper St. Clair High School was awarded a $250 grant having 25 or more students participate in the virtual event.
“It was a fun way to end the year and test our knowledge in the STEM field. We are so proud of Kara for getting second place,” Mrs. Mostowy said. “We look forward to purchasing something fun for the students in my classroom with the $250 grant!”
Created in 2007 by Teall Properties Group (TPG, formerly Scholastic Sports Marketing), the program’s presenting sponsor is the U.S. Army. By sponsoring the National High School STEM Trivia Challenge, the Army is able to give back to local communities and show their support for high school academics and, specifically, STEM programs. Because of their national reach, students from all over the country have had the chance to compete.
“The National High School STEM Trivia Challenge was developed to be a fun way for students to test their STEM knowledge for the chance to earn a $500 scholarship toward their college education, while helping their schools earn a monetary donation, as well,” Beth Johnson, TPG manager of partnership services, said.
