Photo Gallery: STEAM camp kicks off with Pierogi race!
Pirate Pierogi Jalapeno Hannah was on-hand to welcome students as they arrived for the start of the week-long USC Elementary STEAM Camp. The camp, serving 100 rising first through fourth graders, runs from Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16 at Baker Elementary School.
To kick-off the week, campers and Dr. Patrick McClintock-Comeaux, Baker principal, had the opportunity to race Jalapeno Hannah. While the students were victorious, Dr. McClintock-Comeaux lost a close race (Jalapeno Hannah threw his shoe behind the starting line!).
Throughout the week, the STEAM camp will introduce students to the Engineering Design Process in a fun and hands-on way. Campers will brainstorm in collaborative teams to explore the wonders of the sciences around the theme of baseball and PNC Park. The camp is organized by Pam Dillie, Baker teacher and elementary science curriculum leader.
