USCHS participates in Education Day at Quantum Theatre

Quantum Theatre Education Day

The Upper St. Clair High School Theatre Class students, taught by Lorraine Milovac, participated in Quantum Theatre’s fall Education Day on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at the Maverick Hotel in East Liberty. Participants included Sandra McFarland, Milla Yager, Shreya Sriram, Jenni Holderby, Laura Decker, Dariya Baytar, Ethan Stevens, Noah Gidas, Niko Gidas, Jake Polochak, Maddie Sychterz and Aida Cunningham.

Upper St. Clair students have been working with Quantum Theatre’s Resident Teaching Artist Tru Verret-Fleming since September to create, write and perform short pieces inspired by the themes of “Chimerica,” a play currently being performed at Quantum Theatre.

According to Quantum Theatre’s website, “Chimerica is a political thriller that takes a hard look at the role corruption and censorship play in China and America, and the possibility for connection between peoples even amid the adversarial posturing of governments.”

Quantum Theatre actors provided positive feedback to the students following their performances. In addition to Upper St. Clair, students from Pittsburgh CAPA, Pittsburgh Westinghouse and Pittsburgh Schiller School also participated in the event.

“Being in a collaborative space with other artists means a lot to these students as they grow their experiences in theater,” an official with Quantum Theatre said.

Following the program, Quantum Theatre’s actors presented scenes from “Chimerica.” In addition, actors along with the director and crew members held a question-and-answer session with the high school students.
