Sixth graders’ poems selected for publication
“As we studied color symbolism in the novel, ‘The Westing Game,’ students wrote a poem that illustrated the symbolism of a certain color,” Diane Ecker, Boyce Middle School gifted coordinator, said.
The poetry contest, open to students in kindergarten through grade nine, is divided into three grade divisions: K-3, 4-6 and 7-9. Entries are judged on literary merit, creativity and social significance by published writers and/or educators in elementary, secondary and higher education.
According to its website, “Creative Communication is devoted to the promotion of writing, teaching and appreciation of student writing. The intent of our student writing contests is to motivate student writers. The top entries are published in an anthology that will record the creative insights of today's student writers.”
