Five tapped for PMEA Region 1 Band

Five Upper St. Clair High School musicians were selected through competitive audition to participate in the PMEA Region 1 Band in March. Musicians include Phoebe Chen, flute; Henry Zou, oboe; Justin Pacella, euphonium; Steven Halpner, percussion; and Nick Pacella, percussion.

The students qualified by their performances at the PMEA District 1 West Band Festival, which was held Feb. 13-15 at West Mifflin High School. The Region 1 Band Festival is set for March 26-28 at Moon Area High School.

Also performing at District 1 West Band Festival were Eliza Glunt, clarinet, and Matt Hornak, trumpet. Upper St. Clair High School students are led by Don Pickell, music teacher and band director.

PMEA District 1 includes school districts from Allegheny, Fayette, Green, Washington and Westmorland counties. PMEA Region 1 is comprised of PMEA District 1 and District 5, which includes Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization of more than 4,500 members, dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities. PMEA is affiliated with The National Association for Music Education.
