This article was written by a group of students in the intermediate communication arts class who went on a field trip to the Robert Morris University School of Communication and Media. The students were able to sit in classes and explore many pieces of equipment and rooms that the students at RMU use to develop their communication and media skills. The field trip was led by professors Dr. Buzzelli, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Moretti.

The Upper St. Clair School District 2026-27 school calendar was approved during the School Board meeting on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026. There were no modifications to the version that was initially presented in January.

Three Upper St. Clair students are leading the charge to keep their community clean. Sisters Briere (grade 9), Ashlyn (grade 7), and Talon Etter (grade 5) recently launched USC Community Clean-Up Days, collecting more than 20 bags of trash during their inaugural event on Sunday, Oct. 12, along a 2.5-mile stretch of Route 19. Plans for additional Clean-Up Days are already underway.

Upper St. Clair High School hosted its annual Red Carpet event on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, on the high school's campus. A record crowd of parents, friends and community members cheered on our seniors as they headed off to Prom at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Oakland.

Streams Elementary fourth graders marked International Baccalaureate (IB) Action Day with inspiring presentations of their culminating Primary Years Program (PYP) projects on Thursday, May 29, 2025. As part of the IB Inquiry Exhibition, a capstone of the PYP, students proudly shared projects that reflected months of research, reflection and meaningful action.

Upper St. Clair High School senior Ian Dvorin earned first place in Spreadsheet Applications at the 2025 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference, held April 6-8, 2025, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. With this top finish, Ian now qualifies to compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference this summer.

Two Upper St. Clair student musicians have been selected to participate in the 2025 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Junior High Orchestra Festival. Eighth grader, Matthew Pfeiffer, viola, and ninth grader Bella Robinson, violin, will attend the event on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Gateway High School.

Forty Upper St. Clair elementary and middle school students participated in the 13th annual Children’s Choice Awards on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Commonwealth Charter Academy in Homestead. The group included students in grades four through six from the district’s three elementary schools – Baker, Eisenhower and Streams – as well as Boyce Middle School.

Teams from Fort Couch and Boyce middle schools earned second and third place, respectively, at the STEM Design Challenge held Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Commonwealth Charter Academy in Homestead. Sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific and organized by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the competition challenges students to design and build a structure using K’Nex building materials.

Upper St. Clair High School Student Council has been recognized as a 2025 National Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The designation recognizes Student Council’s exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community. This marks the fifth year that USCHS Student Council has earned this national recognition.

Dan Beck - Assistant Principal of the Year finalist

Upper St. Clair High School’s Dr. Dan Beck is one of three finalists for the 2025 National High School Assistant Principal of the Year award. The other two finalists include Rahsaan "Saani" Perry from South Carolina and Dr. La Faye Howard from Maryland. The 2025 National NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year will be announced in April.

Jamie Barrett  and Roshan Mishra: Model UN Best Delegates

Two Upper St. Clair High School seniors earned Best Delegate honors at the recent Model UN Conference hosted by Duquesne University. Jamie Barrett was recognized for representing the United States on the UN Environment Committee and Roshan Mishra was honored for his role as the United States on Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).

A team of Fort Couch Middle School students finished second among 24 teams representing 13 schools in the Western Pennsylvania Science Bowl (WPASB) on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Community College of Allegheny County – South Campus. As the runner-up, the team of Claire Dietiker, Bernard Huang, Darsh Kakkad, Avik Pandey and Lyman Thomson earned $900 for the school’s science program.

The USC Robotics team, Revolution Robots, earned one of two Judges' Awards at the 2025 Pennsylvania FIRST Lego League (FLL) State Championships, held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Palmyra High School. With this achievement, the team has secured a spot at the national American Robotics Open, taking place May 17-18, 2025, at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The McLaughlin Run Activity Center (MAC) was bustling with energy during a recent United Senior Citizens program. Prizes were being presented for the chili cookoff and it was National Puzzle Day. However, most eyes were trained on the windows and door as members anxiously awaited the arrival of Upper St. Clair High School students to help with their technology devices.

Kaaveri Patil - Shakespeare Contest

Fort Couch Middle School eighth-grader Kaaveri Patil was named a finalist in the 31st annual Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest at the Pittsburgh Public Theater. She performed her monologue – as Paulina from “The Winter's Tale” – in the Showcase of Finalists on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at the O’Reilly Theater, in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.

Upper St. Clair High School junior Medha Misra spent part of her summer participating in a program experience that greatly impacted her passion for science and technology. The program, offered through the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Science Education Outreach, provides educational experiences to benefit medical students, health professional students, undergraduate and high school students to inspire students to seek careers in science, technology, and healthcare.

Forty-one rising seventh and eighth-grade students recently spent a summer week developing leadership skills while serving others in the community. The annual Fort Couch Leadership Academy was held from July 22-26, 2024. Throughout the week, students worked individually and collaboratively through tasks that challenged them to define their own concept of what leadership looks like and sounds like to them.
