January is School Director Recognition Month. Pennsylvania’s 500 public school districts are locally governed by nine-member elected school boards. Please join us in celebrating our Upper St. Clair school directors who volunteer their time to serve our students, schools and communities. Upper St. Clair’s tradition of success is a testament to the leadership and service of our school board and their commitment to high standards and expectations in all that we do.

2025-26 calendar proposed – feedback accepted thru Jan. 29
The Upper St. Clair School District has posted its proposed calendar for the 2025-26 school year. The district values stakeholder input and is accepting feedback through Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025. Senior wins Congressional App Challenge
Darcy Vilkner, an Upper St. Clair High School senior, has been named the 2024 Congressional App Challenge winner for Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District for the creation of the app, Cosmic Armada. Congresswoman Summer Lee made the announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025. Read more
USCHS advances to Top 32 in international debate competition
A team of Upper St. Clair High School students has advanced to the Top 32 in the 2024-25 International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) debate competition. Team members include Mana Barimani, Maxim-Levi Shevchenko, Priyaharshini Sivakumar, Nikhita Thakuria and Pari Varshney. Read more
Ticket sales for “Mary Poppins” underway
Ticket sales are underway for this year’s Upper St. Clair High School musical, “Mary Poppins.” Catch one of four shows in the school’s theater: 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13; 7 p.m. Friday, March 14; 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16. Ticket prices are currently $15 for adults and $8 for students. Adult ticket prices will increase to $18 starting on March 9. Admission for Upper St. Clair’s senior citizens is free with a USC Gold Card. Online ticket sales can be accessed at usctheater.org.
Four selected for district orchestra
Four Upper St. Clair High School student musicians participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Senior Orchestra. Representing Upper St. Clair were seniors Roselyn Goldstein, violin; Carlee Santel, trumpet; and Darcy Vilkner, cello; along with sophomore Kyriaki Smith, clarinet. Read more

District-wide art contest underway
Student artists in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to submit entries for the 10th annual Arts in USC contest, sponsored by the Upper St. Clair Parent Teacher Council (PTC). This year’s theme is “Panther Pride.” Students are encouraged to create and submit their original two-dimensional artwork on 8.5”x11” card stock (no glitter, please). Be sure to include the student’s name, grade, school, homeroom teacher, and title of the artwork on a separate sheet of paper. Submissions will be accepted through Friday Jan. 24 in each school’s main office. Learn more about Arts in USC
Healthy Habits – Happy Kids: Book Club
The PTC Wellness Committee, in partnership with the school district, is pleased to present: Healthy Habits - Happy Kids. Join us to discuss the bestselling book, “The Anxious Generation.” Author Jonathan Haidt is leading a movement that brings families and communities together to improve youth mental health, and increase childhood independence and free play.
