USC Speech & Debate Paid Judging Opportunity: Feb. 13-14

We are currently seeking individuals willing to serve as volunteer or paid judges. Paid judges will receive $100 per day. If you, or someone you know, are interested in supporting the USCHS Speech & Debate program for one or both days, please contact Mr. Ben Edwards at bedwards@uscsd.k12.pa.us by Monday, Feb. 2.

The USCHS Speech & Debate Team is thrilled to host the Fifth Annual Three Rivers at Upper St. Clair Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13 & 14 at USCHS and FCMS (4:30-9:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday).

With teams traveling from at least five states, this is the largest and most prestigious Speech & Debate tournament in Western Pennsylvania. It is also one of only a small number of tournaments nationwide authorized to award bids to two national Tournaments of Champions.

To run an event of this caliber, we rely on adult judges to evaluate student performances. As the host school, we are responsible for providing judges to assist visiting teams, particularly those traveling from outside the Pittsburgh area.

Here’s the good news: you do not need prior Speech & Debate experience to judge. There is no such thing as a “professional” judge – any adult with the required volunteer clearances can participate. Judges will receive training and support throughout the tournament.

USC Robotics FIRST Tech Challenge Volunteer Opportunity: Feb. 21-22

USC Robotics is thrilled to host two upcoming FTC Qualifier Competitions (Southwestern PA and Panther Power) at Boyce Middle School on Saturday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 22 from 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Teams will travel from across the region and state to compete in a robotics competition that includes performance in a competitive game and judged awards. Teams design, build and program these robots themselves, and this is their opportunity to showcase their hard work!

We need your help, as volunteers, to make these events a huge success! Volunteer roles range from non-technical roles that anyone can step into to roles where training is provided, such as game referees and judges. Though all roles greatly need to be filled, it is the roles of referees, scorekeepers, and judges that are in highest demand and make or break the ability to host an event.

USC Youth Softball Clinic (K-Gr. 7): March 1

Registration for this year's USC Youth Softball Clinic is now open for girls in Kindergarten-7th grade.

Date: Sunday, March 1
Where: High School Small Gym
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Cost: $50

Camp will be run by USC Coaches and members of the Varsity Softball Team. Instruction will be provided in all skills including hitting, fielding, catching and base running. Players should bring their own glove, bat, helmet, and water bottles (please have all clearly labeled with your player's name). Players should wear tennis shoes (gym shoes- no cleats.)

Girls registered by Feb. 14th will receive a USC Softball t-shirt as part of their registration.

Young Entrepreneur Fair: March 21

Independence Middle School (IMS) Young Entrepreneur Fair

Are you creative? Do you like to make things? Do you want to sell your items? Would you like a chance to win cash prizes? Can you paint, make jewelry, crochet, bake, draw, or create other items to sell? If you said YES - then sign up for the Young Entrepreneur Fair.

This event gives students in grades 7-12 an authentic opportunity to develop and showcase entrepreneurial skills by creating a small business, marketing a product or service, managing pricing and inventory, and interacting with customers. Students may participate individually or in small teams (up to four students).

WHEN: Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10 am- 2 pm
FAIR LOCATION: Independence Middle School Cafeteria (Bethel Park)
BOOTH RENTAL: $5 for an 8-foot AREA
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Feb. 20th
BASKET RAFFLE: Each entrepreneur MUST donate an item(s) with a minimum value of $5 for our Basket Raffle to be held the day of the event. Special Olympics Swim Meet: April 12

The Special Olympics of Allegheny County 2026 Championship swim meet will be held on Sunday, April 12, at the Upper St. Clair High School Pool beginning at 9:15 a.m.

This is the second year that this swim meet will be hosted by PEAQ at USCHS. More than 60 USC high school and middle school student athletes volunteer to make this event possible. Approximately 135 athletes, ranging in age from 6 to 53, will participate.

The meet is hosted by Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics (PEAQ), which partners with Special Olympics by providing coaches and volunteers for the South Hills Splash Special Olympics swim team based at USCHS. In addition to the Splash team, five other Southwestern Pennsylvania Special Olympics teams will compete: the Pathfinder Piranhas, Team Washington/Greene Counties, JCC Squirrel Hill, the North Allegheny North Stars, and the Butler County Bulldogs.

SLB Radio is an independent non-profit co-located at the Children's Museum in Pittsburgh's Northside. ALL students who participated in this year's Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are invited to join us for the following opportunities:

Students can join us for a live, in-person interview on our award-winning radio program, The Saturday Light Brigade. This interview takes place on Saturdays and lasts between 20-25 minutes.
Students can join us on Mondays or Thursdays to record their work in our Youth Media Center, with access to professional recording equipment, support from our staff, and more. Students can learn to edit their pieces and SLB will add completed pieces to a playlist on our website.

Ink to Ear // July 20-31 // Age 14-18
Are you a poet, writer, or media-maker looking to push yourself into a new medium? Spend two weeks writing, recording, and editing your short story, personal essay, poem, or hybrid piece to bring it to life. All students will produce an original piece of audio to be published in a digital literary magazine from the Youth Media Center. Week One: learn about different types of audio stories, recording best practices, draft new work, and practice different revision strategies. Week two, choose one of their new pieces to develop into an audio drama through voice acting, music, and editing techniques.

Scouting America Troop 366

Troop 366 invites any 5th grader or older to attend our meetings to learn about the Scouting America program. The goals of the Scouting program are leadership, teamwork, camping, friendship, service, character, and fun. These goals are accomplished though the teaching of various skills, merit badges, and outdoor adventures. The Troop has varying monthly activities and service event opportunities.

Weekly meetings are held from 7:30-8:30 on Tuesdays at Westminster Church in Room 107 (near the playground). Contact information for Scoutmaster and Committee Chair are on the website. No prior scouting experience is needed.

AI Summer Program taught by Stanford alumni @ USCHS

Inspirit AI is offering an in-person, 30-hour AI program hosted at Upper St. Clair High School that teaches students in grades 6-12 fundamental AI concepts and guides them to build socially impactful projects such as safe ChatGPT bots, exoplanet search, self-driving car systems, and more!

Stanford and MIT graduates in AI will be present in-person from June 29-July 10, 2026 to teach. Separate middle and high school sections will be offered.

South Fayette Youth Volleyball (ages 7-15)

Join the fastest-growing youth volleyball programs in South Fayette! Boys and girls ages 7-15, for beginner, intermediate and experienced players. (co-ed league divided into four divisions: ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15) Divisions are determined by child’s age on November 1, 2026.

League is directed by a Clinician (Head Volleyball Coach) who organizes, instructs, supervises and maintains volunteer coaches in the instruction of each team. Clinician (Head Volleyball Coach) has experience playing and/or coaching volleyball at the high school, club, college or higher level.

Registration fee includes a t-shirt and a medal. Players should bring their volleyball.

We recommend the Molten VBU12 for divisions 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 or IVU-BLU for division 13-15 because they are good quality, official size volleyballs with a soft cover. If they don’t own one, it can be purchased at www.usyvl.org/store.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program supports homeowners and renters across Pennsylvania. This program provides a rebate ranging from $380 to $1,000 to eligible older adults and people with disabilities aged 18 and older. The amount of money you will receive is based on your income. This program is supported by funds from the Pennsylvania Lottery and gaming.

Under Pennsylvania law, the Department of Revenue evaluates the program before the June 30 deadline every year. If extra funds are available, the deadline is extended to December 31. Applications postmarked by that date will be accepted for processing.
