Mrs. Heather R. Herbay
Welcome to Art at Baker School. My name is Heather Herbay and I am so excited to begin my second year as Baker's art teacher. Many years ago I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My major was in graphic arts and I minored in fiber arts. In the ensuing years, I worked and started a family with my husband. When my youngest started preschool I began teaching art at St. Paul's Episcopal Nursery school. My experience there awakened a desire to pursue art education at a higher level and I earned my K-12 art education certification from Carlow University. Baker holds a special place in my heart because I completed my elementary student teaching experience at Baker six years ago. I have had four long term substitute positions within the Upper St. Clair school district teaching art at Eisenhower, Streams and the High School. I also had a long term substitute contract with Pittsburgh Public Schools at Pittsburgh Montessori.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and four children. My oldest son's name is Ben and he is a junior at Penn State University in State College, my son Sam is a senior at Mt. Lebanon High School, my son Jon is a sophomore and my daughter Annie is in eighth grade. We also have a dog named Gabby and a nine month old puppy named Deena. In my free time I enjoy doing lots of things such as making art, cooking, gardening, reading, knitting, and running. I also like to volunteer at my church as a Sunday School teacher and to go on mission trips to help less fortunate children in other parts of the United States.
I look forward to getting to know all of the students here at Baker as we create art together.
