Welcome to the Upper St. Clair elementary strings program.
As the students begin each year, there is a lot to look forward to. First year students will begin the process of learning to play the instrument including how to take care of it and will be on their way to learning their first songs. As they learn the basics we hope to have many fun lessons experimenting with rhythms and background accompaniments. Second year students will jump right in to the "music pool" and will learn new notes and bowing techniques while continuing to practice and refine the skills that we have already learned. Fourth grade students will have the opportunity to perform in several concerts.We have a long way to go, but I'm sure that you will be amazed at the progress.
As a parent/guardian you can help your child be prepared for their strings lesson by reminding them to remember their instrument and book/music on lesson days and by encouraging them to practice at home at least three to four days a week. Showing an interest in your child's practice is a great motivator. Additional musical activities such as listening to a variety of music styles that include string instruments or attending a live concert where children can view the musicians "up close and personal" can provide inspiration to a budding musician.
