Mrs. Dawn Mostowy

I began teaching at Upper St. Clair High School in the 2005-06 school year. I began my teaching career at Peters Township High School in 2001-02, where I taught AP Biology, Academic Biology, Honors Biology, and Applied Biology. I did my internship at Moon Area High School teaching AP Biology and 12th grade Honors Biology during the 2000-01 school year. Before I decided to become a teacher, I worked in the Health, Environment, and Safety department at Bayer Corporation for five years. Before that, I worked for two years at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD researching cystic fibrosis. 

My educational background includes a B.S. in Biology from Penn State University with a minor in German and an M.S. in Education from Duquesne University. I also have my principal certification. I am a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School.


Courses Taught

AP Biology: This course is a highly challenging two-semester laboratory course equivalent to a first level college biology course. It is specifically designed to follow the Advanced Placement curriculum. This curriculum will greatly enhance students’ confidence and academic interest in the areas of cellular biology, heredity, molecular genetics, evolutionary biology, and plant and animal physiology. Emphasis will be placed on the concepts and themes of biology. Students who complete this course have the option of taking the AP Biology Examination and receiving college credit for their work.  Depending on the college and depending the score they earn on the exam, students could earn up to as many as 8 college credits since this is course is the equivalent of TWO college semesters of lecture and laboratory work.
